What the Coronavirus is doing for us, not to us...

The one consistent theme that stands out for me in workshops, working with clients, and speaking with friends, is the desire to be at peace and happy with who we are.

Today, with coronavirus numbers growing nationwide, many of us have the opportunity to sit with ourselves, reflect and reset who we are. Part of resetting is finding the opportunity to engage in creative ways in order to express acts of kindness towards others and ourselves.

Recently, I have heard many creative and positive coronavirus stories. Such as:

  • In Georgetown, neighbors open their door every evening at 6:00 pm to wave to each other.

  • People are reaching out like never before to connect with friends and co-workers, acquaintances, or friends from the past to simply say “How are you?” and truly mean it.

  • People are smiling at others more while driving or walking.

  • Friends are having coffee zoom chats, wine chats, and many are noticing that they are not multitasking but remaining totally present.

  • Request are coming through numerous community websites for individuals in need of groceries, with dozens of responses offering to help.

  • Restaurants who are taking a financial hit are still donating food.

  • Individuals are donating to funds for the unemployed, first-line responders, and for medical supplies.

This is really an opportunity for individuals to practice kindness to oneself. Here are a few ideas you can start today:

  • Eating healthy

  • Taking walks

  • Taking time for self reflection

  • Practicing yoga at home

  • Engaging in meditation or prayer

  • Listening to a healing podcast

  • Reading a beautiful poem

  • Posting positive social media messages

Be aware of your negative and fearful thoughts, and replace them with positive ones. And most of all, in the time of the Coronavirus, remain focused on gratitude. This, my friends, is the part of the Coronavirus that is not happening to us, but for us!!!!
